The Healthcare Career Advancement Program (H-CAP) is a national labor/management organization that promotes innovation and quality in healthcare career education. Its board includes Service Employees International Union (SEIU) locals and healthcare employers across all sectors of healthcare.

The mission of H-CAP, a labor/management organization, is to transform healthcare workforce development and education, to support and engage a well-trained and valued workforce to better meet the need for quality care in a rapidly changing industry. We do this by: - Convening labor management leaders - Documenting and disseminating best practices across our network - Developing a collective agenda for system transformation

As healthcare transforms into a value based system, the need for a well trained and competent workforce is more important than ever and represents a space where unions and employers have a common interest.

H-CAP provides opportunities for labor/management workforce partnerships to share best practice and ideas on workforce development and planning while supporting efforts to align healthcare professional education with industry requirements. Through our growing sector partnership, we are reaching out to stakeholders to learn about and affect healthcare policy and research in ways that support our changing industry and its workforce.

H-CAP also works with joint labor/management training funds and organizations that implement local workforce, career ladder, and educational programs. In 2014, we launched the H-CAP Education Association, a 501 (c) (3) not-for- profit organization to support staff development, shared curricula, program ideas, and successful practices among the 15 different regional and industry based funds in the acute, ambulatory, long term and home care sectors.
