As Labor Day draws near, a day dedicated to honoring the contributions of our country’s workers, we pause to extend our heartfelt recognition to healthcare professionals who, for generations, have shown unwavering dedication and resilience. Our healthcare workers are always on the job, helping to keep our hospitals and other care centers staffed and ready to help those in need on every major holiday, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including on Labor Day.
Healthcare workers do the work that enables every other part of our economy to function. There are 22 million healthcare workers in the US, one of the largest and fastest-growing industries, yet the dedicated healthcare workers who help care for patients every day are too often overlooked.
Healthcare workers are dedicated to their education, the education of their colleagues, and the education of patients and their families to ensure they have the peace of mind that comes with informed care. We acknowledge the strength and dedication it takes to work tirelessly within an industry that has so often offered hollow words and thankless demands instead of the good pay and benefits workers deserve.
Labor Day is a moment to reflect not only on the contributions of healthcare workers but also on the conditions they face. Adequate protective equipment, fair pay, and access to mental health support are all essential components of a supportive work environment.
